I have spent the last few days of going through my photos from Antarctica (I took about 4,000 of them--no joke). This evening I added about two dozen to my "Antarctica" gallery on this site, so if you enjoyed the others, please check these out as well. 
    As you look at them, you will see a number of penguins, of course, but there are also many of ice in its many varied forms. According to experienced members of the crew, it is the ice more than anything else that entrances people--the strange shapes it takes, it's color, reflecting the water and the sky, and it's slow (glacial) movement, the weird, abstract snaps it sometimes assumes as a result of years of wear by wind and water. Before I went to Antarctica, I would have thought that idea was pretty strange--how can you be entranced by something so white and cold? Now I get it. I also appreciate how old most of the ice is in a glacier--hundreds of not thousands of years, because the amount of precipitation in Antarctica is less than most deserts. One Antarctica hand told me that after a while in Antarctica "it's all about the ice." After viewing the images on my gallery, perhaps you will think so too.
